Italy on the go!

“Il Baffi” was a Chilean Italian-inspired fast food chain in Santiago. Our client wanted a friendly, warm and cool visual identity approachable by young, hungry customers seeking quick, quality Italian flavours on the go.

The Name: More Italian Than Correct

Even if it sounds strange in Italian, they preferred “Il Baffi” over the grammatically correct “Il Baffo” because it feels “more Italian” to Chilean ears. Sometimes brand perception trumps linguistic accuracy, and in this case, the playful incorrectness actually enhanced the approachability and charm of the brand. The name itself became a conversation starter.

Logo Design: Rhythmical and Versatile

Fast food logos need to be designed to communicate speed, satisfaction, and familiarity all within a glance. The logo creation was very straightforward: we wanted a rhythmical shape, custom made that could work easily as merchandising and in different colours and materials.

Bold colours are popular in this industry, commonly used to stimulate appetite and convey a sense of energy and excitement. We crafted a flexible logo system that maintained its impact whether embroidered on staff uniforms, printed on takeaway bags, or illuminated on exterior signage. This versatility was crucial for a fast food brand that needed to perform across countless touchpoints.

“Italy on the Go!”

We created the brand claim “Italy on the go!” to capture the essence of what Il Baffi offered: authentic Italian flavours adapted to Chile’s fast-paced lifestyle. The tagline worked in both Spanish and English, crucial for Santiago’s increasingly international dining scene, and it positioned the brand clearly in the competitive fast food landscape.

Integrated Brand Language

We developed everything from the brand to the whole look and feel of the restaurants, with focus on street impact, bold identity and coherence between touchpoints. If you are selling other items and products aside from your food offers, then it is essential for you to implement your branding in the packaging designs of these merchandises.

All elements needed to be branded, and it was necessary to create a language that could allow us to decline the brand for different uses. From napkins to storefront awnings, from menu boards to delivery boxes, every element spoke the same visual language. This integrated design approach ensured customers experienced a consistent brand whether dining in, taking away, or ordering delivery.

Venue Design for the Pilot

We conceived a full programme that included venue design for the pilot location in Santiago. The interior balanced warmth and efficiency, creating a space that felt Italian in spirit (warm colours, comfortable seating, inviting atmosphere) whilst maintaining the operational speed required for fast food service.

A fast food restaurant interior that is based on the brand of the business can promote effective communication during counter transactions and enquiries LinkedIn. The design guided customers naturally from entrance to order counter to pickup area, with clear sightlines to menu boards and promotional materials throughout.

Street Impact Strategy

In Santiago’s crowded restaurant scene, street impact was non-negotiable. The exterior design needed to attract passersby instantly, communicate the brand promise at a glance, and create curiosity about what waited inside. We achieved this through bold signage, strategic use of the brand colours, and window treatments that gave glimpses of the interior warmth whilst maintaining visual intrigue.

The pilot location tested our complete brand system in real-world conditions, proving that every touchpoint from the initial visual identity through to the physical space worked together to create a memorable, craveable Italian fast food experience for young Santiago diners.
